Witch witch is Which...Get Your Facts Right!
There seems to be quite a lot of confusion out there about the word Witch and what it stands for.
Firstly, being described as a Witch is just like being described as a Buddhist, a Christian, a Hindu or a Jew.It is the label that is given to the follower of a particular spiritual practice. According to the last Australian Census, over 30 000 people in this country admitted they were pagan with a big percentage of those calling themselves Witches.
In the US, Witches are rightly recognised as the followers of a bone fide religion and have their own pagan chaplains for within the Military and their own designated graveyards for example.
A good test of the word is to substitute the word Jew or Buddhist in the sentence that you intend on using. A major newspaper recently described me as a 'witch' with an incredulous, cynical tone. Substitute the word Jew in there and well, Huston we have a problem!
You also can't say I don't believe in 'Witches', because we are real living people just like Jews, Catholics, Hindus, Buddhists etc are. How funny would it be if someone said "I don't believe in Buddhists" yet they have great disbelief in Witches still!
Secondly, some Witches have psychic ability. Some don't. Some of these witches describe themselves as psychic. Some don't. The One is a show about psychics and not their chosen spirituality. There are Witches on the show and whilst their psychic gifts may be up for review, their spirituality certainly is not.
